The rise of virtual production (VP) technology in the global film and television sector is creating a new growth segment for stage lighting: high-color-rendering index (CRI) products. VP relies on LED walls and projection mapping to create realistic virtual environments, requiring stage lights with a CRI of 95 or higher to ensure accurate color reproduction—critical for matching real-world scenes with digital backgrounds.
In 2024, global sales of high-CRI stage lighting for film/TV applications grew by 40%, with major Hollywood studios and European production companies leading the demand. Key products include LED panel lights, softboxes, and spotlights with adjustable color temperature (2700K–6500K) and precise dimming capabilities. Exporters specializing in VP lighting have also expanded their service offerings, providing on-site technical training to help production teams optimize light settings for virtual environments.
Asian exporters are capitalizing on this trend by partnering with VP technology firms. A Chinese stage lighting company recently collaborated with a Singaporean VP software developer to launch an integrated “Lighting + VP Control System,” which has already secured orders from Netflix and Disney’s Asian subsidiaries. “Virtual production is reshaping the stage lighting industry—exporters who can combine hardware excellence with software integration will win long-term partnerships,” said an industry expert at the 2024 International Film & TV Technology Expo.
